Welcome to Third Grade!

Welcome back to a new school year at Mississippi Creative Arts School. My name is Mai Houa Vang and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I have been teaching in the district since 1995.  We will be learning many new things this year in Math, Reading, Writing, Science, Art, Dance, Music, Drama, and more. We will also be working on integrating the arts with the content areas.

I’m looking forward to a fun and exciting year, and I intend to make learning a positive experience for your child. I am asking for your support by sending your child to school everyday, making sure that your child reads at least 20-30 minutes in the evening, monitoring your child’s homework, and asking your child what they learned at school each day. If you have any questions or concerns you may contact me in the following ways:

  • Phone- 651-293-8840 ext. 42551, and you may leave a message
  • Email- mai.houa.vang@spps.org

The best time to reach me/for me to return your call will be before or after-school.

Thank you for your commitment to your child's education, and I am confident that together we will have a fun and successful year!

 Homework Expectations:

Homework packets will be given first day of the week. Students have a week to complete the packets and turn them in (For example; given Monday due following Monday.) Homework is expected to be completed on time to get credit. Everything they did not finish in class will also be homework.

Students are expected to read every night for 20-30 minutes. It is important for them to practice reading, as it it the only way for them to grow as a reader. Students will be sent home with books and a reading log. Please make sure to sign the log for each day your child has read.

Your students will be pushed HARD during the school day. I am a firm believer in pushing all students to reach their academic best and make progress. Being behind is not acceptable when they can do better!

All assignments are expected to be handed in on time.
