My name is Greg Williams and I have been teaching for Saint Paul Public Schools at Nokomis Montessori School since 2003.  I teach Elementary One (1st, 2nd, 3rd grade).  It is a joy to teach your children and work with your family during your child’s 1st , 2nd and 3rd grade years of school.

I enjoy working with students sharing my joy of teaching and learning each day!  It is exciting to see students grow in their learning, developing their abilities, and felling success as they master a new skill.  Students in my class community continue to build their critical thinking and problem solving skills while becoming lifelong learners.

    Homework:

Shortly after the Fall parent orientation homework will start in my classroom.  You will see homework coming home in book bags/backpacks on Monday and is often returned on Friday.  Some homework can be done on line or logged in the students reading folder.

-Reading:  Your child is encouraged to read at least 10 minutes per grade each night.  This can be done by reading books they take home from the classroom, your home library of books, library books, and reading from book apps and Raz-kids online.  Some students will have sight word rings to practice the sight words from lessons.

-Math: Your child is encouraged to practice basic math facts (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division) each week.  Flashcards, silent math (an activity taught in school), Xtramath, worksheets are a few ways you child can practice building their math facts at home.

Building fluency in reading and math comes from daily practice.  Thanks for your home support with this and using many of the tools I share with you throughout the school year.

-Spelling: Spelling will go home on Monday with some homework and the spelling test will be on Friday.  If there is a short week there will not be spelling that week.  Thanks for practicing with your child each week!

    Volunteers:

Parents are welcome to volunteer and help out throughout the year.  This can be done by coming in consistently each week, helping on field trips once in a while, to helping cut out materials at home.  I am open to finding a way that you can share your talents and skills with the students in my classroom.  Thanks for all you do for my students, classroom, and me!
