Things to Know About OCIs
The OCIs listed here have been tested and approved by Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS). Schools are encouraged to check this website regularly for updates.
Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of each school or department to identify an OCI that meets their specific needs.
If the language you require is not listed, please note that there are currently no OCIs employed by SPPS who speak that language. For requests regarding interpreters for other languages not included, please email Sara Reyes or fill out the OCI Request Form.
Finding an OCI
If you are unable to find an OCI for an assignment, please complete the following form: OCI Request Form.
For ASL interpreters, contact Heather Holter at heather.holter@spps.org.
Documentation
Schools must complete the On-Call Interpreter Log whenever they hire an OCI. Please fill out the log promptly after interpreting assignments are complete.
OCI Payment
- OCIs submit their own hours online through Employee Self Service. Schools are not required to submit pay sheets for them.
- All OCIs are paid a minimum of two hours for site visits and one hour for phone calls/virtual meetings. To help with cost savings, please attempt to schedule interpreter time consecutively.
- If a last-minute cancellation is necessary, interpreters should be compensated at their minimum rate if the cancellation occurs less than 24 hours or one business day before the scheduled appointment. Please try to avoid unnecessary cancellations.
