Hmong American Day
Hmong American Day celebrated on May 14, recognizes the cultural strength, leadership, and contributions of Hmong families, students, and community members who enrich Minnesota and Saint Paul every day. Minnesota formally recognized Hmong American Day in 2013.

Celebrating 51 Years in the USA
The date honors May 14, 1975 — the fall of Long Cheng and the final evacuations that launched the Hmong diaspora and the rebuilding of new lives in the United States.
Ways to Celebrate
Celebrating Hmong American Day builds belonging, cultural pride, and community — and schools across the district are encouraged to come together to honor this important day.
Here are some meaningful ways schools can celebrate:
- Highlight books by Hmong authors or about Hmong history and culture.
- Encourage staff and students to wear traditional Hmong clothing.
- Display Hmong cultural items with brief educational descriptions.
- Play Hmong music during passing time or lunch.

We proudly celebrate our Hmong staff and students—your dedication and contributions strengthen SPPS every day.
