National African American Parent Involvement Day
Monday, February 11, 2019 is National African American Parent Involvement Day!
All Are Welcome Here! We are looking forward to ALL of our families joining us on this day celebrating the important connections between families and school.
We invite ALL families to spend the day with their scholar(s). We will be having an All School Community Building Circle dedicated to the day's purpose. Family members can join a Family Community Voices Restorative Circle, there will be a "Kindness Quilt" station where families can leave encouraging notes or family stories for their child in our Family Resource Room, and family members are invited to join us in the classrooms and to eat lunch with their scholars. If you can't join us until later please join your students when you can and be a part of a Closing Community Building Circle (3:30) in your scholars' class and join us for "Bring Your Own Dinner" and a Film at 5:30
9:30am- 4:00pm All School Community Building Circle, Family Community Voices Restorative Circle, Kindness Quilt Building, Visit and learn in Classrooms, and…
5:30- 7:30 pm Bring your own dinner (Something quick and fast, family favorites, or something that represents your home culture) and enjoy culturally relevant films (Documentary: “Black Border Warriors” for adults/ “Duke Ellington and More: Narrated Stories of African American Leaders” for all ages
A day to celebrate ALL families and to welcome all into classrooms to see how scholars learn every day and to support their educational future. A day to celebrate African American History and Heritage and to share time together as a whole community.
Some of the goals of NAAPID are to:
- Promote parent involvement in their child's education.
- Address the serious achievement gap facing African American students.
- Promote and provide strategies for parents and students to take full advantage of the educational process at all levels of the educational system (preschool through college).
