Meet Our Instructors
Mr. Bredeums has worked as an educator in St. Paul for 40 years. He has taught history and social studies at both the junior high and senior high level. He has also coached tennis, basketball, and baseball. In addition to teaching, Mr. Bredemus also leads many historical and cultural tours all over the U.S. and Europe. Mr. Bredemus has been teaching Driver Education and behind-the-wheel lessons for Saint Paul Public Schools for over 30 years.
Mr. Courneya has been teaching in Minnesota for over 35 years. He obtained his Masters degree in Reading from the University of Wisconsin, as well as other degrees/certificates from Minnesota State College, Macalester College, St. Cloud State, and the University of Minnesota. Mr. Courneya currently teaches driver education classroom as part of the school day at Washington Secondary School as well as behind-the-wheel lessons. In addition to teaching, Mr. Courneya also coaches varsity track and volunteers for and participates in various marathons and races throughout the Twin Cities.
Mr. Ertz graduated from St. Paul Central High School and has received degrees from the University of Minnesota, Mankato State College, and the University of St. Thomas. He presently teaches in Saint Paul Public Schools Adult Basic Education program as well as works as a certified behind-the-wheel instructor for our Driver Education program. Mr. Ertz is currently on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Driver and Safety Education Association.
Mr. Fishback holds degrees in Secondary Education and has a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of St. Thomas and has taught in St. Paul for over 35 years. He earned his Driver Education certification from St. Cloud State University and is also a certified Commercial Driver Instructor. His hobbies and interests include motorcycles, baseball, and archery.
Ms. Johnson attended the University of Minnesota where she obtained a Masters in Music Education. She also completed her Driver Education certification while in school. She has taught as a music teacher, driver education classroom teacher, and behind-the-wheel instructor in Saint Paul Public Schools for 35 years.
Mr. Kunz received his Masters at the University of St. Thomas. He served in the U.S. Army, active duty, and Army reserves from 1970-1976. Mr. Kunz retired in 2010 from teaching math and computer programming for Saint Paul Public Schools. Mr. Kunz also coached the Highland Park math teams throughout his teaching years. He continues to teach driver education after school as he has for the last 39 years.
Mr. Toconita holds degrees in both Speech Pathology and Special Education and has worked in Saint Paul Public Schools for many years. Mr. Toconita has been a certified driver education instructor for both classroom and behind-the-wheel for over 33 years. He also worked as a certified Commercial Driver Trainer for 5 years. In addition to teaching, Mr. Toconita is a world traveler, has had 2 papers published, and is featured in a documentary film.
