Dear Families: I am very happy to be returning as your principal for the 4th year! Thank you for staying the course with us throughout last year despite the pandemic and other situations that made the year atypical. Together, we were able to make it through! As we start School Year 2020/21 in Distance Learning, I am confident that we will continue to support your child’s learning while at the same time, providing you with the tools that you need in order to make learning rewarding at home too. I hope that this transition will be much smoother than the one in spring, since we have been able to learn from past experience and improve on a number of things. It is important that you connect with us, primarily through your child’s teacher for assistance if you are still having trouble accessing information, difficulty with the assignments or just internet problems and connectivity. The district has been very generous in making sure that hot spots are provided to all those who do not have internet connection, so please contact your child’s teacher and take advantage of the resource and opportunities that are available to you! As we navigate this new learning platform, I know that Opening Day this year is going to look and feel very different for you, especially because your home is now turned into a virtual classroom, rather than the excitement and anticipation associated with the first day of school. We want your experience to be effective, nonetheless, so our team of dedicated staff is willing and ready to help make this school years’ experience as enjoyable and as rewarding as previous years’. Please know that Highwood Hills staff are with you throughout these challenging times. In addition to the support that Highwood Hills gives its students and families, please also reach out for support via familysupport.spps.org. Through this website, you could access a number of support systems that have been made available to you, including, but not limited to meal delivery.
