Milk Carton Recycling

Contrary to popular belief - milk cartons do NOT have a waxy coating surrounding the paper carton. In fact, refrigerated cartons consist of three layers of paper and plastic (see below), these layers allow the cartons to recycled and reused into future paper products such as paper towels, napkins, and tissues. Starting in the Fall of 2015 Saint Paul Public Schools implemented a District wide recycling program that allows for students to recycle their milk cartons (along with other recyclable materials) during lunch time. Diverting the milk cartons from the waste stream is economically and environmentally sustainable as it conserves space, natural resources, and SPPS funds.
