COVID-19 Update: No School March 16-17, Staff should report to work

Dear Saint Paul Public School Staff,

At this time of uncertainty due to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), our focus at SPPS is to keep students and staff safe and healthy while continuing our work to serve our students’ academic needs.

Governor Tim Walz on Sunday morning signed an executive order to close all schools starting Wednesday, March 18, through Friday, March 27. This closure is to allow schools time to prepare distance learning plans if a long-term closure is necessary.

In addition, Saint Paul Public Schools will be closed Monday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 17, to begin preparing plans for distance learning and meal service for students during the statewide school closure. Staff will report to work.

The SPPS Distance Learning plan will be communicated on Monday, March 16, including professional development and resources. Distance Learning plans will utilize our existing tools, Schoology and Seesaw, as our primary instructional delivery systems. At this time do not expand beyond the current suite of digital learning tools already approved.

If you are sick, we encourage you to stay home and follow the sick leave and call-in procedures for your building/department. We will follow the Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for social distancing for staff meetings by gathering in larger spaces such as cafeterias, gyms and auditoriums.

SPPS building engineers and custodial staff will continue to deep clean our buildings. Staff will make sure K-12 students have access to a device; and teachers will prepare and begin to implement distance learning plans that will be used if schools close for an extended period of time.

SPPS is following the guidelines and advice of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to slow the spread of COVID-19.

We will share additional information with you about COVID-19 on an ongoing basis. Please check your email and visit for the latest updates.

We appreciate your patience and support as we work to keep students, staff and families safe during this time.
