Change to SPPS COVID-19 Quarantine Guidelines (8.5.22)

SPPS will no longer require quarantines due to close contact exposures effective 8/5/22. This applies to close contact exposure from household members, even if the exposed individual is unvaccinated. If a household member tests positive for COVID-19, all students and staff from that household are strongly encouraged to wear a mask at school and work until the person’s symptoms are gone.

Individuals who are exposed to someone with COVID-19 are encouraged to test 5 days after exposure. If symptoms develop, stay home, isolate from others and get tested right away. Submit a report to the SPPS COVID-19 Reporting System to receive information about next steps and do not go to work or school.

This change to quarantine guidelines is an effort to minimize interruption to in-person learning for students and staff. There has been a disproportionate amount of absences with our BIPOC students throughout the pandemic largely due to lower vaccination rates.

Surrounding school districts, outside of Minneapolis Public Schools, are not enforcing quarantines due to close contact exposures. SPPS ended quarantines on March 4, 2022, for all employees and students that are unvaccinated and exposed at school or in the community. Household quarantines were the only quarantines that were enforced until August 5, 2022.

If you are eligible and have not already done so, please get vaccinated. Students and staff who feel ill should stay home and get tested for COVID-19.
