Retail/Customer Service Literacy
This course is designed to teach the literacy skills needed for work in Retail/Customer service careers. The course is intended to help participants learn how to provide good customer service to co-workers, acutal customers and each other.
The curriculum is focused on greeting customers appropriately, describing products to customers, learning how to calculate discounts of 10%,25%,50% off coupons, filling in inventory sheets for supplies as well as many other skills associated with retail/customer service careers.
This course is designed as an introductory class where:
- Classroom participation and good attendance is expected
- 8 week commitment
- Reading test (CASAS 83/84, 197-229), score High Level 2 to level 5
Next Steps and additional career information:
Learners interested in moving forward can enroll in additional ELL classes or move into the Retail/Customer Service Certificate class. In this class learners with gain a certificate for 90 hour of classroom preparation from the Hubbs Center. Students may also choose to take the National Retail Federation test for Professional Certification in Customer Service. This exam is offered at multiple sites in the metro area. The fee for the exam is between $70.00 to $80.00.
