April 12, 2021:

Greetings, Panther Students, Families and Staff!

This is Principal Paddock with the BCMS school updates for the week of April 12th.   We hope you are enjoying your break.  As a friendly reminder there is no school April 12th and 13th as staff prepare for in-person learning.  Quarter 4 begins Wednesday, April 14th for both in-person learning and those that have opted into virtual learning.  Please access our recorded presentation on our webpage at bcms.spps.org.

April 14th is a B-Day.  All students will attend Daily Foundations/Study Skills from 8:30-8:50 am Monday-Friday synchronously.  Students will attend Periods 1B, 2B, 3B and 4B.  Some BCMS teachers may invite virtual learning students to participate in synchronous learning following the new in-person schedule.  As a reminder, virtual learning students will receive primarily asynchronous instruction.  We will have staff available to help students with their schedule this Wednesday and Thursday.  All students participate in asynchronous learning on Friday after the daily check-in.

Check out the updated BCMS Daily Schedule and Distance Learning 2.0 Semester schedule for more information.  The Distance Learning 2.0 semester schedule has been updated to include semester 2.

Teachers, school staff and coaches are already getting tested regularly for COVID-19. We owe it to them to do the same. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) recommends that all school-age children who are returning to school, sports, or extracurricular activities, as well as their families, get tested every two weeks through the end of the school year. While it is not a requirement, regular testing complements other safety measures already in place, such as masking and social distancing.

By getting tested every two weeks from now until the end of the school year, we can help keep schools open and sports operating, and ensure we are limiting the spread of COVID-19. More information is available on the MDH website.

It has never been easier to get tested. Testing is provided at no cost to you.

Students that are reporting for onsite support or plan to participate in in-person learning should be bringing their iPad daily.  Please make sure it is fully charged and that it is in its case with the keyboard securely fastened.  Please see this message from Ms. Hagen regarding your district issued iPad.

Dear Battle Creek Middle School Families,

With Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) starting the 2020-21 school year in distance learning for all students, there are learning materials our students will need before the start of this school year.

SPPS has developed a plan to have student learning materials available for curbside pick-up at our school in a streamlined manner while following social distancing guidelines. Student supplies such as: iPads, books, art supplies, and iPad cases (6th grade only), 6th grade science workbooks will be labeled and assembled for pickup.  Instruments will be available at a future distribution date.

The scheduled time frame for pickup at BCMS is 11am-3pm on:

○      Tuesday, September 1

○      Wednesday, September 2 (includes book check-out)

○      Thursday, September 3

I ask that families stay in their vehicles and line up to receive your student’s items by accessing our school via McKnight and heading west on North Park Drive.  Materials will be set up along North Park Drive in front of the school.  If you walk, look for signs and a check-in table. Please wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines when waiting in line.

If parents are not able to make their scheduled date, please call Battle Creek Middle School at 651.293.8960 and leave a message. Our staff will return your call as soon as possible with guidance on how to receive your student’s supplies.

I appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to reopen our school. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email at lanisha.paddock@spps.org.

Tomorrow you will receive information on the BCMS Student Daily Schedule via email and text.  It will also be posted on our webpage at bcms.spps.org.

Thank you for supporting your child, and Battle Creek Middle School.

Sincerely,

 LaNisha Paddock, Principal
