Throughout the month of September, students and staff at Focus Beyond work together on a variety of projects to celebrate Mexican Independence and to learn about Hispanic culture.
The school projects include student performances -- singing, acting, dancing and a fashion show -- as well as student artwork that represents Mexican culture.
Parents participated by sharing information about their culture. This year, one student’s family gave a tortilla-making demonstration and students were able to make -- and taste -- their own tortilla.
After the final performance, students, staff and families gathered for a potluck fiesta featuring traditional Mexican dishes made by students.
