Staff: View the 2018-19 Winter Weather Plan

The Winter Weather Plan has not changed from the previous year, but there are new guidelines for recess during cold weather. Please review the following.
  • Schools will now keep students inside if the wind chill is expected to be colder than -10 degrees below zero. Share with your families.
  • Families are encouraged to follow these guidelines and monitor their children’s clothing selections to make sure they are appropriately dressed for cold weather. Share with your families.
  • Review with staff and share this plan with your families so they know when decisions will be made and the weather conditions required to close school or cancel after-school activities. Translations included.
  • Share with your staff so they'll follow the guidelines for “Snow” or “Cold” depending on the cancellation.
  • There’s a simple way to ensure you receive important SPPS messages or emergency notifications by phone, email and text messaging. Share this with your staff.

The Office of Communications will follow its standards for informing staff, families and the public about school closings or after-school cancellations.
