Changes for the 2022-23 school year

In fall 2021, SPPS leadership presented Envision SPPS to the Board of Education. The presentation included recommendations to relocate, merge or close some schools and programs with the goal of providing well-rounded education programs and ensuring all SPPS students have access to high-quality learning opportunities regardless of which school they attend. On December 1, 2021, the Board of Education voted to approve Envision SPPS with some changes to the original recommendations.

The following changes will take place at the end of school year 2021-22:

  • Cherokee Heights Elementary’s Montessori program will relocate and merge with J.J. Hill Montessori Magnet School at J.J. Hill.
  • Cherokee Heights will reopen as a community school.
  • Students attending Riverview West Side School of Excellence’s community program will relocate to Cherokee Heights.

Families are encouraged to contact the Student Placement Center to find out what school options are available to your student.
