Healing Circles on June 2nd
Dear Como Park Family,
I am writing to address the killing of Mr. George Floyd by Minneapolis police on Memorial Day, and the community unrest in the Twin Cities and across the country.
As a school community, we have been navigating the unexpected challenges of distance learning during a pandemic. I expect that we have all been experiencing feelings of frustration, isolation, loneliness, and maybe even sadness, from time to time.
Now, we wrestle with the painful reality of the death of another African American man, George Floyd, at the hands of police. It is difficult to find the words to explain this to students, especially when we don’t have daily personal connections where we can create spaces to have these important conversations.
We will be holding two virtual Healing Circles on Tuesday, June 2nd at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm to hold space to talk about this as a student body. This will be an opportunity for students to process their emotions and reflect among a group of trusted staff members. If you’d like to attend, please join us on Google Meet, using the nickname ComoHealing We ask that you remember that this will be a safe place for all voices to express themselves respectfully and that each individual may experience this event in a different way. If you have any questions about the circle, please feel free to contact a school counselor or Gail Grogan, school social worker.
We are providing some guidance for you on how to help support your students as they maneuver the feelings they have right now. If your student needs to talk, please encourage them to reach out to any member of our school community.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
