Important Message from Como Park Senior High School Principal Stacy Theien-Collins

Dear Como Park Senior High School Family,

I am writing to share information about an incident in the community that impacted our school this afternoon.

Police responded to a fatal shooting that occurred in the North End neighborhood this afternoon. Because of police activity in the area, we followed our safety procedures which includes bringing students inside from outdoor activities and keeping them in their classrooms, out of the hallways and away from windows. These precautions were in place for 10 minutes.

We also worked with the District’s Security and Emergency Management team and Saint Paul police to have extra patrols on site during dismissal.

In the coming days, my staff and I will work with students who may have been impacted by this incident to help them in any way we can. Additionally, our team of social workers and counselors will be available beginning Monday, May 6 for all students who may want to talk.

Young people react in many different ways to tragic news. It’s important to talk with your child and be alert to any changes such as:

  • physical – any changes in sleep patterns or eating habits;
  • emotional – any changes such as unusual fears, anger, worry, or especially distant behaviors toward parents;
  • social – loss of interest in usual activities.

If your child is having a difficult time, please don’t hesitate to call me at 651-293-8800. Thank you for supporting your child and Como Park Senior High School.
