September Newsletter

JJ Hill Montessori community,                 September News

The last two weeks have been a time of connecting with old friends and making new friends. The beginning of the school year is such an exciting time, full of hopes and dreams for the school year ahead.   As a staff we began our first day together in a Restorative Practice circle.  This is one way that we will gather as adults and with children.  This will help us learn about each other and hear multiple perspectives as we articulate our beliefs and values as a school community.

Communication:  Going forward, monthly school newsletters will be sent home the first Friday of the month.  Look for other communication from your child’s teacher.  School folders should arrive soon.  I apologize for the order delay.  They are white with a calendar on the back.   Also, follow me on Twitter for school and community news and pictures.  @Ms_Maura_

About the new principal:

At school, children may call me Ms. Maura (rhymes with Laura!)   I have a 1st and a 3rd grader who attend Falcon Heights Elementary.  As I am with you in being a parent of elementary age children, there are days when I will leave quickly after school.  I am always available by email.  My husband is a chef and we have a dog and a bearded dragon.  My children and I spend a lot of time at Twin Cities Trapeze Center; come try a flying trapeze class with me!  I also love podcasts and am always looking for recommendations.  I look forward to getting to know each family at JJ Hill.  Please share your favorite family activities with me.

  • Wearing hats and hoods in the building

Exceptions to these rules should be addressed with classroom teacher.

We will take hand-me downs! The health office is in need of pants and shorts.  We currently have plenty of tops.  And donations of new underwear: sizes 4T, 5 and 6 are greatly appreciated.

I often go to the wisdom of Maria Montessori.

"Times have changed, and science has made great progress, and so has our work; but our principles have only been confirmed, and along with them our conviction that mankind can hope for a solution to its problems, among which the most urgent are those of peace and unity, only by turning its attention and energies to the discovery of the child and to the development of the great potentialities of the human personality in the course of its formation." (From the foreword to "The Discovery of the Child", Poona 1948).

Truly, we will continue to work for peace and unity through our work with you and all children.
