Welcome to the 2018-19 School Year
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! All of us at Riverview look forward to seeing all of you! Grades 1-5 begin on Tuesday, September 4 and Pre-K and Kindergarten students on Thursday, September 6.
I am once again honored to partner with you in educating and empowering our youth to be the leaders of tomorrow! The first day of school can be overwhelming for students. Here are a few things to know so you and your child can prepare.
► School Hours
School begins at 8:30 am and ends at 3:00 pm.
- Morning PreK hours are 8:30 - 11:00 am.
- Afternoon PreK hours are 12:30 - 3:00 pm.
► Breakfast, Lunch and Snack
All students receive a free breakfast at school, served daily from 8:15 am to 9:00 am through the Breakfast to Go program. As students arrive at school, they can grab their breakfast and eat in class.
Our school is part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. That means every student enrolled at our school will receive a healthy lunch at no cost! Riverview also received a grant to provide healthy snacks Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
► After-School Programs

- Extended Day Learning - Riverview will once again hold after school programming on Mondays and Wednesdays starting from October to May. Violin lessons will also be available to continuing students and new 3rd graders (look for more info).
► Stay Connected
Stay up to date on what’s happening at our school through Facebook, Twitter or the MySPPS app. Download the MySPPS app and “Follow” Riverview to have instant access to school news and events, track bus delays, review meal menus and much more.
Also, “Friend” us on Facebook and “Follow” us on Twitter. Ask your child’s teacher for other ways to stay connected with Seesaw or Schoology.
► School Bus Transportation
If your child is taking the bus to school, you should receive a yellow postcard through U.S. mail in the last week of August. The postcard lists details about where and when to meet the bus. Please arrive at the bus stop five minutes before the bus is scheduled to pick up your child. Be sure to track the status of your child’s bus on your school’s website, at spps.org/bus or through the MySPPS smartphone app.
If you believe your student is taking the bus but did not receive a postcard, please call our clerk, Ms. Jackie at 651-293-8665 as soon as possible.
► School Drop-off and Pick-up
Students are welcomed by staff at the last door in the back of the school (on Isabel St.) from 8:10-8:30, where you can conveniently drop off students at the curb and make a U-turn to leave. Please pull all the way up to allow for a smooth transition.
If you would like to walk students into the building, please park away from the Bus Zone and Drop Off Zone and walk your child inside through the FRONT DOORS. For your safety, do not walk in between parked buses.
The parking lot is closed during arrival (8:10-8:40) and dismissal times (2:45-3:10).
► Back to School Night
Please join us from 4:30 - 6:30 pm on Thursday, August 30 for our Fall Back to School Night. You will be able to visit classrooms, meet your child’s teachers and classmates, drop off any school supplies and learn about new and exciting activities planned for the year.
The school supplies lists are now posted on our website at spps.org/riverview.
Our school requires all students to wear uniforms and closed-toe shoes every day. See these Attendance and Uniform Guidelines for more information.
You should have received calls asking you to update your family information on iUpdate. The information is also provided at spps.org/onestop. Every family must complete the forms. If you need assistance completing the form, please call or stop by the school.
► School Contact
Please check our school website regularly, spps.org/riverview, for information and updates. If you have questions the website doesn’t answer, please call our clerk, Ms. Jackie at 651-293-8665.
It is my belief that our work in educating our children is done in partnership with families and community. Please remember that I am here to serve you and your family and don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, ideas or celebrations you have about our school!
