Dear St. Anthony Park Families:

It was quite a thrill to be in Washington, D.C., last week, with former Principal Ann Johnson and teacher Ruth Krider.  We were honored to accept the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award.   Next time you are at school, check out the display case near the office to see the plaque and a few pictures of the award ceremony.  I look forward to celebrating with the whole school soon.

Last week, the staff had a tour of the construction area, including the new library, the surrounding offices and many new classrooms.  The atrium in the library has huge windows on three sides; it will be full of light once it is finished!  I am looking forward to seeing our students using the resources in that new space at the heart of our school.  This week, Ms. Hausman, Ms. Austin and Mr. Ollmann are moving into new classrooms on the south side of the building.  Ms. Maas is moving to Ms. Austin’s old room.

Our lost and found is bursting at the seams!  Please take a few minutes to label all of your child’s items.  Also, visit the lost and found at the bottom of the stairs near the bathrooms on the first floor.  At the end of this month we will donate unclaimed items; we don’t have enough room to store everything!

Traffic is still hectic during arrival and dismissal times, especially on Knapp St. near the bus loading/unloading area.  Please be sure when you are here to drive slowly and courteously; there are lots of children around.  There have been a few minor incidents out there – let’s make sure no one is injured, and let’s model kindness for our kids.  Thanks.

Another note for those of you who pick up kids from EDL or Discovery Club:  please do not park in the bus loading area from 4:30 to 5:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  That is a bus loading zone for the EDL buses.  There are signs posted during no-parking times.

Parent-teacher conferences are this week, and we hope for 100% attendance.  Call the school office if you need to change your conference time. When children know that home and school are connected, they feel more supported and they are more successful in school. When you are here, be sure to visit with your child’s other teachers – they know your child well and appreciate the chance to meet with you.  Our specialists are:

Ms. Paulsen – Physical Education

Mr. Schrankler – Science

Ms. Christenson – Active Inquiry

Mr. Ollmann – Music

Ms. Oleen – Art

Mr. Clark – Technology

Ms. Bekele & Ms. Freeman – Special Ed.

Ms. Dunder – Social Worker

Ms. Davies - Counselor

Ms. Tocher – English Language

I will also be available during conference times – please feel free to stop by the office to introduce yourself or to meet with me about anything that is on your mind.

Finally, I have started a Twitter account to share with the world all of the wonderful things that are happening at St. Anthony Park every day.  So… follow us on Twitter: @stanthony_spps

Thanks, as always, for all you do to support our students and our school.  Keep in touch!
