May 2020

Today was a somber moment for SPPS and it's school board.  News broke out that the board Chair Marny Xiong and her father were in critical condition with COVID-19.  This hits really close to home.  Last week, I attended a funeral for one of Marny's close relative.  It was just a one day event but there were limits as to how many could be in the funeral at one time.

Some of you may have been directly or indirectly impacted by news of relatives or friends getting infected with this deadly virus and this could be overwhelming.  I just hope and pray that this pandemic rapidly disappears so that things can return to normal.  I am just so happy that Governor Tim Walz took measures to secure the safety of all the people in Minnesota before it became drastically worst.

Teaching and learning definitely has a different twist to education since March.  Teachers had their first strike ever in a long long time this past March.  Every student K-12 were given a device to take home for Distance Learning.  Teachers had to quickly develop and modify their teaching and put everything online for the students.  Students and parents had to adjust to the online learning while being ordered to "Stay At Home" to limit the spread of the virus.  This is definitely something we have not had since I've been in Minnesota (35 years).

May 18 was the latest date the Governor has set for the state of Minnesota to return back to normalcy.  Cross our fingers although death continues to climb.  I hope people are still keeping their distance and staying home.  In the meantime, let's do our part and make sure we are safe at home while learning new ways to stay engage and be with our loved ones.

God bless and see you next month!
