Everyone is invited on February 22 Horace Mann’s Annual Family Volunteer Service Night February 22, 6-8 PM, at school.

This year we celebrate “Voices in our Community” with five service projects and special guests.  This is a time for families to connect with each other and with our larger community.

If you would like to get more involved, we are in need of assistants for the projects.  This is a 1.5 hour, one-time commitment. The sign up is here. We are also collecting used tee-shirts and new toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, and deodorant for two of the projects in a box outside the office.

Free Family Bingo Night! Bring your friends, neighbors and family to a fun and exciting bingo night on Thursday, February 28 at 6:15pm in the cafeteria. We will play lots of bingo and have popcorn and juice for all. Thanks to the PTA for sponsoring this great, community event.

Box Tops for Education - Submit Your Collection prior to February 22! Box Tops for Education is a program designed by General Mills in 1996 to help with funding for schools. Hundreds of products added box tops to their own packages. Each box top submitted is worth 10 cents. Although this doesn't seem like much, when we pool our collections, the results are terrific. Box Tops submissions occur two times per school year. Horace Mann's goal for collecting Box Tops for Education for the 2018-19 school year is to earn $1,000. In order to meet this goal, we need your help!

  1. Shop as you normally would. Various food items, toiletry items and cleaners all have the boxtops logo. For a list of participating products, please visit Box Tops for Education’s website (
  2. Clip your box top. Each box top for education is worth 10 cents for our school. Some products have more than one box top on it.
  3. Bring in your box tops. Simply drop off your Box Tops for Education in the school office or send them to school with your child. We will coordinate mailing them in to support the school.

We need to fill 45 slots for Great Gatherings -- and we only have 13! These fun social events account for nearly half of the money raised at the auction and are a great way for you and your kids to meet and play with other Horace Mann families and staff. The funds we raise contribute to many of the enrichment activities our students enjoy all year. We have lots of hosting ideas and show you how to do it at the Great Gatherings website. Please visit us now to check the calendar and submit your form. Forms are due: February 26

Some people have contacted us because they're looking for someone to team up with. If you'd like to pitch in but don't have an idea of your own, consider joining another host. We can connect you both.

If you've never hosted and have questions about GGs like:

  • What should I charge?
  • What age range is appropriate for my event?

Please reach out to Karla Lauerman, Jen Williams or Therese Sherman at

The 2019 Horace Mann PTA Silent & Live Auction:  ‘One Small Night for Mann, One Giant Leap for Mann Kids’ This year’s Silent Auction will be here before you know it.  Remember to save Friday, March 8th to attend this fun, adults-only event at Harriet Island Pavilion. We need YOU to make the event a success and support PTA funded programs at Horace Mann!

  1. Please consider putting together a GIFT BASKET to donate to the auction.  Google is a great source for gift basket ideas!
  2. We need GREAT GATHERING hosts! Signing up to host has never been easier!
  3. Do you have a TALENT OR SERVICE? It’s a great way to contribute to the event.  No donation is too small.
  4. The easiest way to contribute is to pick up a gift certificate to any STORE or RESTAURANT and donate it to the auction!
  5. We are collecting donations of adult beverages to be raffled for our WALL OF ADULT BEVERAGES.  Donations can be dropped in the school office.
  6. Do you have a small business or a service that could use an ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY?  The Auction Catalog is the perfect way to market to the Horace Mann community! $25 buys a business card size ad, $50 for a half page, and $100 for a full page!  A great way to promote! If interested, please contact Anne Pavlis ( for details.
