Perspectives 04-18-19

Chess Club Starts Again We are able to begin our chess club again thanks to Ms. Tennyson, Laura Vander Wegen, Valentin Povarchuk, Megan St. Dennis, and volunteers from the University of St. Thomas Chess Club. Chess Club takes place on Tuesday mornings for the rest of the year from 7:30-8:30am in the Library. Students can still get breakfast as part of the club. Please complete the permission form and email or send it to Ms. Tennyson at mariana.tennyson@spps.org. You can find the form online by clicking here or going to the bottom of the Perspectives page on our website.

Roller Skating Begins Remember that students will begin rollerskating next week (April 22-26). Please turn in permission slips and fee to the classroom teacher, by the first day of skating for your child’s class (either Mon, Tues, or Wed).

The permission slip is the only requirement. Without the permission form, students will not be able to skate. No exceptions.

Also, students who have their own helmets (bicycle, hockey, skiing/snowboarding, etc.) are encouraged to bring them, as they will fit them better than what will be provided. There will be wrist guards, elbow and knee pads, as well as a few helmets provided. They will be required to wear helmets and wrist guards. Other equipment is optional.

Any questions, contact Mr. Castillo (mark.castillo@spps.org). skate

Walk/Bike to School Day May 8 We are seeking parent/guardian volunteers to help on Walk/Bike to School Day. The volunteers would walk with our students who ride buses. Buses will unload near Highland Parkway and Fairview Avenue. Our student patrol members will also help. This event will take place rain, snow, or shine, unless there is severe weather. Please email Principal Litwin (jim.litwin@spps.org) if you are available or have questions.

All Students Receive Yearbooks This Year Huge thanks to everyone who donated for classmates’ yearbooks or who ordered a yearbook this year. As a result, all of our school’s students will be receiving yearbooks at the end of the year. It would not have been possible without you. Thank you for giving every Horace Mann student the chance to enjoy the fun, memories, and sense of belonging on the day yearbooks arrive!

Testing Update for April 22-26 The first week of testing went well. We have the smallest number of students ever to do make-ups. Thank you for having them in school!

We begin state testing in math for Grade 3-5 students on April 23. The schedule will change for the entire school on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24. Check out below for your convenience if you have appointments for or plan to visit your children these two days.

Please Give Feedback on PTA Business Partnerships Can you spare a couple minutes to provide some feedback to the Horace Mann PTA Business Partnership Committee about things like Davanni's Night and Give to the Max Day? It takes 2-3 minutes tops! Go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/T8PHJYY.

Our BP Committee only meets once a year. It is a great committee on which to volunteer if you want to help, but don't have a lot of time to meet. Thank you!
