Extended Day for Learning (EDL) Delayed

The start date for Extended Day for Learning (EDL) has been delayed due to a statewide shortage of bus drivers. The tentative start date for EDL programs will be the week of October 21. To fulfill the focused, alternative learning opportunities that EDL provides to support student achievement, EDL programming will run through May 11.

Please review the 2019-20 Elementary EDL Calendar.

At Horace Mann School, this impacts special programming like Girls on the Run, Lego Robotics, and Band. We are looking at options. Band will likely start during the school day on Wednesdays in the next two weeks.

District leaders are optimistic that bus drivers can be found within the next couple of weeks to provide EDL transportation. Our Transportation Department is working hard to secure additional contracts with other transportation vendors for the revised start of EDL. If this impacts your family, a list of community resources that offer after school programming can be found on

Please email Principal Litwin or call 651-293-8965 if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks for your support despite a difficult problem.

Readathon 2019Reading is my Super Power!

This year’s Readathon is underway (see attached photo from the Opening Ceremony).  During the Readathon, September 30–October 27, students read outside of school and track minutes. They may seek pledge donations on behalf of the Horace Mann School PTA.

Students should return their weekly minutes record to school each Monday beginning on October 7. They will receive a fun prize from their teacher.

If your family needs a Readathon packet, extra copies are available in the school office or you can click on the Readathon introduction letter, calendar, weekly minutes record, pledge sheet, and matching gift information.
