“I wanted to go to Ferguson once the opportunity presented itself. This is a community that has experienced something extremely detrimental to their youth -- and I’m all about the youth. I was really interested in seeing how something that harsh could really impact their lives and if there was any resiliency left in those kids. Each day we had different activities and different lesson plans for the kids to participate to build back hope and resiliency in them, and also to start a connection to show that people still care.” -- Taneisha Smith (pictured center), behavior support at Battle Creek Middle School who volunteered last summer helping students at a camp in Ferguson, Mo.
