APRIL 25, 2017: SPPS Board of Education Reaches Verbal Agreement with New Superintendent
The Saint Paul Public Schools Board of Education is happy to announce that it has reached a verbal agreement with Dr. Joseph Gothard to become the next superintendent of Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS).
Details of the agreement were finalized this afternoon and the three-year contract will be signed later this week.
"The Board is pleased that we have reached an agreement with our next superintendent," said Jon Schumacher, Chairman of the SPPS Board of Education. "This is an important next step for the work that we need to do to move the district forward.
"I've said it before, but it bears repeating -- we are grateful for all who participated in the search for our new superintendent," Chair Schumacher added.
Dr. Gothard will begin in his role on July 1. His base salary will be $232,000 plus a business allowance. There will be a potential for salary increases beginning in 2018. His contract also includes medical and dental coverage.
There is not a residency requirement included, but if Dr. Gothard decides to move to the City of Saint Paul within the next 15 months, he will be offered one-time assistance with moving his household goods.
"I'm very excited that I have been given the opportunity to help lead the state's second largest district," said Dr. Gothard, who currently serves as the superintendent of District 191. "I look forward to getting to know the St. Paul community and bringing great excitement to our staff and schools in service of our great students."
Additional details will be shared once the contract is signed.
